Date published 12 Jul 2023 Sunday’s NBL1 match took on special meaning as we cheered on the Perth Redbacks while wearing our First Nations designed jerseys to support NAIDOC week, and to celebrate connection and togetherness. Before the First Nations Round game got underway, we were honoured to be part of a moving Welcome to Country and cultural experience hosted by the artist Phil Walley-Stack. The Redbacks’ connection with the Walley-Stack family spans three generations, from Phil’s father, Trevor Stack from the previous State Basketball League, through to Phil’s son, former Redback player Isaiah Walley-Stack and the club’s first cultural ambassador. Thank you to the Perth Basketball Association for inviting us to be a part of the First Nation Round and for the opportunity for us to meet two of our Ngalak Bursary recipients, Lailah and Zayde. Special thanks to Phil for sharing his story with us, and a shout out to the Perth Redbacks for taking out the win!
